In badminton anticipation is preparing for something that is expected to happen. Expected could be a return by an opponent of the shuttle to a particular place, the position of an opponent, the action of the partner, a way of playing by the opponent. Preparing could be adapting the positions, planning a reaction, placing the shuttle in a particular way.

In fact, anticipating is part of the game during the whole play. Placing the shuttle is done in an expected difficult way for the opponent. After each stroke a position is chosen to be expected most advantageously. Insight, fantasy and spontaneous play are used to anticipate appropriately.

Though, mostly is “anticipating” used for particular situations in which is clearly expected how a shuttle returns. Then the position is adjusted.
